Nurturing Department

Nurturing Department is a special department in this special church – JKUSDA. It works very closely with the elders’ office in ensuring that special needs of the church members are taken care of so that every member of the church feels free and accommodated. The department aims at Christian growth which is fundamental to all Christians. Christ’s death granted to all believers freedom from the bondage of sin, inviting us into his marvelous light; and to show forth the glory to Him who has called us out of darkness. In this new freedom, we are called to grow into the likeness of His character, communing with Him daily in prayer, feeding on His word, singing His praises, gathering together for worship and participating in the great commission (Matthew 28:18-20). One of the ways of doing this is through the Family Bible Studies. These promote unity and brotherhood among the members.

Our Vision:

To see Nurturing Department as a solution to problems arising from how we relate and best give answers that all of us is acceptable pertinent to the Bible principle regarding teamwork as we embrace salvation from Jesus Christ as a reward of eternal life.

Our Mission:

To ensure a one all gathering of church members where we can all freely share in one accord our desires without fear of victimization or alienation from each other as we encourage each other on our journey to heaven.

WHAT DOES THE DEPARTMENT DO?

The nurturing department, instituted by the special church JKUSDA aims at reaching out to everyone; a ministry to all classes of people, bringing them to the religion of the Bible and benefit from its truths. As members of this special church, our own words and lives should show the refining influence of God’s truth upon the heart. Then, shall all who become acquainted with us will see that the religion of the Bible never degrades the receiver, and as they accept the truth they will perceive the duties and responsibilities upon them in their turn to be representatives of Jesus Christ upon the earth.

Christ is the Master of Discipleship. Through learning His methodology, especially in the work of soul-winning, the Department partners with other church departments to fulfil the Great Commission; ministering to the low in spirit, comforting the bereaved, and encouraging the socially challenged.

The duty we owe to our fellow men, places us under obligation to use our talents in the light of truth which we have received, as well as the talents of means to the exchangers. The truth of God, obeyed from the heart, is constantly increasing.

The Department registers and inducts new members into the church and ensure their growth in various aspects as faced in their stay in JKUAT; not forgetting socially (as they interact with other members), academically (guardians are appointed to first years in their respective courses), most importantly Spiritually.

JKUSDA Family Groups

The Nurturing Department organizes the church members into smaller groups (families) of about 15 to 20 individuals depending on the membership that semester.

These groups have seen members feel as part of JKUSDA, bringing back in to the fold those who might have wandered away from the Infinite One and also they’ve made many come to the knowledge of God and the church through sharing of their views and asking questions.

This has resulted into a constructive interaction that would be hard to achieve in large congregational meetings, regardless of the number of times met.

There are two heads in each family. They organize the family meetings and activities as per the family plans

Some of the activities done at family level include:

  • Sunday evening Bible study.

  • Visitation of family members

  • Visitation of the sick in the hospital.

  • Participation in Sabbath School programmes such as the Sabbath School Bible study.

  • Sports and Social activities such as the Sports Sundays & Social Sundays organized by the Social Health and Temperance department.
