The social, health and temperance department is committed to bringing happiness to the church family and community through optimal health. It is God’s desire that we may have an abundance of life (John 10:10) which means vibrancy in physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing. God has given us the health message to prepare us for our heavenly home. We are to heed as well as preach it. ‘’
‘’The greater number, however, suffer because of their own wrong course of action. They disregard the principles of health by their habits of eating, drinking, dressing and working. Their transgression of nature’s laws produces the sure result; and when sickness comes upon them, many do not credit their suffering to the true cause, but murmur against God because of their afflictions. But God is not responsible for the suffering that follows disregard of natural law.’’ (MH 234.2)
The Creator hath given us a blueprint; an owner’s manual guiding us how to obtain a fulfilling and healthful life. Through the many centuries during which the beauty and splendor of our home has been marred and blighted with sin, man has diminished in character, in morals and in physical stature. It is with earnest devotion that this department seeks to endorse an adoption of the original diet –vegetarian diet. Genesis 1:29 ‘’And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing see, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed, to you it shall be for meat.’’
‘’True temperance teaches us to dispense entirely with everything hurtful and use judiciously that which is healthful.’’ Temperance page 138. We believe man has been imbued with such remarkable abilities both physically and intellectually. But what if he fails to control himself, what if he lacks restraint or gives himself entirely up to appetite and passions? Then his capabilities are set at naught, his potential curtailed. We therefore, in this department, promote Christian temperance which would give birth to a sound body and a sound intellect, thus we can serve God to the fullest.
The social branch of this department is concerned with organizing and promoting social event for (and in) the church. These include: nature walks, social Sundays and sports Sundays. We admonish church members to attend these and seek to ameliorate their social lives by interaction with fellow congregants. Christ Himself was well acquainted with His disciples, well conversant with their problems (Luke 22:31,32). In following His example we shall effectively make disciples for Him.
Our mission can simply be stated as: To bring awareness of the importance of health and temperance using various methods as literature, health Sabbaths/seminars and exercise programs.
Come and learn and be inspired.
